~Last Words~

Autumn slowly creeps up onto us,
Following me down the street,
As I walk, passing through the crowd,
Passing the faces I see everyday and can't remember,
Hoping to find one that, I know, I won't...

I look at the park, as I come to it,
Seeing a shadow of us playing on the swings,
Smiling, laughing....clueless,
Of the road ahead of us that we walked on for so long,
And started so long ago, in fact, started,
By the time we could barely say each others names...

Looking at the cafe where we spend so much time together,
I saw the sun shine down on the table,
Where I gave you a flower, at only 8 years old,
And you gave me the first kiss on the cheek,
The first of many we shared,
Shining...as to show something great,
Something that had hope, had begun...

The clouds began to cover the sky, overcastting,
As I sat there on the bank of the river,
Lying back, imagining you next to me,
Remembering the times from our early teens,
Making pictures, everyday, from the clouds and the stars,
Until the night, when we saw a shooting star,
And as we both made a wish, we took the others hand,
Making us realise, our wishes were the same...

The moment the rain started to lash down,
I took shelter in the tunnel under the bridge,
And staring up at the drops, falling,
I remembered the moment we had here, our 19th winter,
Freezing, trying to keep each other warm,
But catching a glaze from each others eyes,
We kissed lips for the first time,
Admitting to ourselves after all these years,
A truth that was forever coming, but long overdue...

But its so funny though, as you shed a tear,
Putting a crush piece of paper in my hand,
Then, from my arms you ran through the rain, out of sight,
Never seeing you from that day on,
The paper was the only bit of you I have left,
I only ever read it once, but yet the words,
Were imprinted into me, remembering them forever,
Looking up at the sky filled with drops of tears,
I spoke those words in my head, with a false smile,
"I love you....I'm sorry...."...
